Mr. Henry Ikatukhu - Vice Chairperson

Mr. Henry Ikatukhu is an experienced Community Development and Extension Specialist. He has been actively involved in community development since 1979 when he started his career with the Institute of Cultural Affairs in Nairobi as one of the first Kenyan staff members. His training has had much emphasis on human resource development, while in his work he has concentrated on sensitizing and organizing rural communities to support innovative approaches. He is well versed in participatory evaluation; participatory planning methodology, has conducted Training of Trainers courses for specific projects. He is experienced in developing leadership and management training manuals for groups and institutions, mobilization of both Community and resources, conducting training of trainers’, leadership training courses as well as training entrepreneurs in income generating activities. He is experienced facilitator of workshops and conferences, institutional and groups strategic planning, participatory evaluation and planning, impact assessment. Mr. Ikatukhu is Vice Chairperson of the Smallholder Irrigation Scheme Development Organization (SISDO) and of Smallholder Irrigation Support Organization (SISO). 

Henry is a Community Development Specialist with over 20 years experience of development management using participatory approaches in program design, curriculum development, training and group facilitation and survey studies. He has worked with the Institute of Cultural Affairs (ICA) both in Kenya and Cote D ‘I Voire, as one of core staff, and later on as Community Organization Consultant (COC) since 1990. While with COC he worked in Kenya and among the pastoralists of Tanzania. Received extensive on-the-job training with much emphasis on human resource development, and concentrated on sensitizing and organizing rural communities to support innovative approaches and local projects.

He is well versed in participatory evaluation and participatory planning methodologies. Mr. Ikatukhu holds a Diploma in Community Based Project Planning & Management from Kenya Institute of Social Work and Community Development (1999 - 2001) and a Certificate (International Training for Community Development Practitioners), The Institute of Cultural Affairs International (Belgium), 1990.

Mr. Stephen Mirero - Treasurer

Mr. Mirero holds a B.Com (Hrs.) degree from University of Nairobi (1974). He started his career with Kenya Government as a District Co-operative Officer. He was one of the founders of K-Rep (1984) which was instrumental in introducing MF in Kenya and the rest of Africa. Prior to K-Rep Mirero had 10 years of banking career with two leading Banks: Kenya Commercial Bank and Commercial Bank of Africa (CBA-then subsidiary of Bank of America).  

In K-Rep, Mirero held key technical and management positions starting as Technical Credit Advisor in 1984; rising to Deputy Managing Director & to the Executive Head of the K-Rep Group that holds together the three entities of the Group: The K-Rep Bank, The K-Rep Development Agency and The K-Rep Advisory Services in 1999-2002.

Over the years Mirero has been heavily involved in all areas of institutional development and capacity building consultancy assignments for K-Rep in many African countries, i.e. Uganda, Swaziland, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia& Ghana (for 3 years). Major K-Rep clients included:- the World Bank, UNDP, %Action Aid, World Vision, Central Banks, ILO, AfDB and Government Ministries/Departments.

Mirero has served on several boards of MFIs in strategic positions such as Vice President of the International Network of Alternative Financial Institutions (INAFI), Board Chairman INAFI Africa Region, Vice Chairman, Kenya Ecumenical Church Loan Fund and a Director/Chairman/Treasurer of SISDO, Chief Executive Officer INAFI Africa Trust (2002-2006) and thereafter Technical Advisor-Economic Development in the National Youth Development Agency of the Government of South Africa for 10 years.

Mrs. Gladys Tarayia - Chairperson

Mrs. Gladys Tarayia is the Chairperson at the SISDO Board. She is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya. She has been the company secretary for Agricultural Finance Corporation and she has served as a Board Member of Maseno University.Gladys is a member of the Law society of Kenya, East Africa Law International Bar Association and also a full member of the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM). She has a Bachelor of Laws LLB (Hons.) in the University of Nairobi and a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.She is currently pursuing her Masters of law (LLM) at the University of Nairobi.Gladys Tarayia has previously worked with Ndunda and company Advocates, Messrs Sane &  Company advocates. She also has worked with Agriculture Finance Corporation where she was the Deputy Managing Director Overseeing the Business Development Department.

Mr. John S. Kimathi-Director

Mr. Kimathi is a Board member of the SISDO Board of Directors. He holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Moi University, A B.Com (Accounting Option) and CPA(K).He is currently a lecturer at Kenya Institute of Management (KIM). He has served in various institutions; Chief Accountant NCCK, Total (K) Ltd. (District Sales Manager), Caltex Oil (K) Ltd. (Management Accountant) and has also served previously as SISDO’s Chairman of the Board.

Eng. Austin Menya – Director

Eng. Austin Menya is a Director of SISDO Board. He holds a Bachelor of Science Mechanical Engineering Degree from the University of Nairobi. He has previously served as the Engineering Services Manager at Kenya Breweries Ltd. Currently he is a consultant.
